Photos of The Cool Kids, June 2011. Chicago. I got a call from my old pals, The Cool Kids, who were in need of some last minute promo photos to coincide with today’s release of their first full-length album When Fish Ride Bicycles. As is seemingly always the case, the shooting conditions were far from ideal. Managing the high-noon sun without an assistant or any equipment I couldn’t hold in my hand was a challenge, but a fun one at that. I shot most of it with one on-camera flash to fill in the shadows, and threw up a second flash when I had a second to spare, which generally wasn’t the case while up against the clock. The last few shots were taken on a later date on assignment for a Chicago Reader article that ran as a B-Side cover story. The music video above was perhaps what first put the Cool Kids on the map in a big way. I’ve also included a track from the new album down below for your listening pleasure. Go check it out on itunes!
